7 Days Marangu Route – Kilimanjaro Climb (5 Days on Trek)
The Lemosho Route is one of Kilimanjaro’s most beautiful and less crowded trails, known for its remote start, stunning scenery, and excellent acclimatization profile. Spanning 8 days (with 6 trekking days), this climb offers a gradual ascent through lush rainforests, dramatic ridges, the vast Shira Plateau, and alpine deserts, culminating in a thrilling sunrise summit at Uhuru Peak. Ideal for trekkers seeking a quieter, more scenic path to Africa’s highest point, the Lemosho Route delivers both a challenging adventure and unforgettable views.
Explore Day-to-Day Itinerary

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Moshi, the gateway town for Kilimanjaro adventures. Relax at The Maridadi Hotel (or similar) for dinner and overnight as you prepare for the trek.
After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate (4 hours) for registration, then continue to the Lemosho trailhead. Trek through pristine rainforest, with possible sightings of buffalo and elephants, to reach Forest Camp (9,500 ft). Hiking time: 3–4 hours.
Climb through rolling hills and heather landscapes, passing streams and reaching Shira Ridge. Descend slightly onto the Shira Plateau for the night at Shira Camp 2 (12,500 ft), surrounded by breathtaking views of Kibo. Hiking time: 8–10 hours.
Continue up a rocky path toward Lava Tower (15,190 ft) for acclimatization, then descend into the stunning Barranco Valley. This day is key for adjusting to altitude. Overnight at Barranco Camp (13,000 ft). Hiking time: 6–8 hours.
Tackle the steep Barranco Wall, traverse ridges to Karanga Valley, and push on to Barafu Camp (15,300 ft), the base for your summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the climb to the top. Hiking time: 8–10 hours.
Begin the final ascent just after midnight, reaching Stella Point for sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak (19,341 ft), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, descend back to Barafu for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp (10,000 ft). Hiking time: 7–8 hours up, 4–6 hours down.
Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for a well-deserved dinner and overnight at The Maridadi Hotel (or similar). Hiking time: 3–4 hours.
After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure. End of services.
